UHMW-PE: Fluoro-Plastics uses the most advanced skiving technology in the world, and makes UHMW-PE film in rolls from 2 mils thick up to 60 mils thick. Rolls can be ordered in slit widths from six inches up to thirty-four inches wide. Various lengths are available. Because the UHMW material is compression molded into large billets before mounting on the skiving equipment, extremely long lengths are available. For example, at 5 mils of thickness, a roll up to 4,000 feet long (without splices) is possible, meaning less downtime for processing lines. These are the longest UHMW rolls in the world, to better meet the needs of laminators and film processors and converters.
Ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene exhibits excellent abrasion resistance and impact resistance. UHMW is most useful in a wide variety of slide bearing applications where load and temperature are not too high. It is light weight (1/8th the weight of mild steel), self-lubricating, shatter-resistant, long-wearing, and abrasion and corrosion resistant. It meets FDA and USDA acceptance for food and pharmaceutical equipment and performs well in applications up to 180 deg. F. or when periodically cleaned with live steam or boiling water to sterilize. Fluoro-Plastics has been a worldwide leader in the manufacture of PTFE and Teflon® sheets, film, and complex extrusions for over fifty years. Now Fluoro-Plastics has added UHMW to its line of advanced materials products for industry’s most demanding applications.
